Through our work with DFN Project Search, Undershaw has been approached by Disability Rights UK as the national charity looks to our young people to represent the voice of a generation.
Our students will be invited to write for Disability Rights UK’s monthly newsletter Get Ahead and magazine publication on topics as diverse as:
- First-hand reports on their Employability and Life Skills journey
- Undershaw’s growing community links, both in the locality and in the wider SEND education landscape
- the plethora of activities involved in the Undershaw curriculum
- news and first-hand accounts of supported internships and work placement schemes.
In line with the Disability Rights UK’s values of ‘Strength in Difference’ and ‘Sharing Power’, the students will also be credited as co-editors and further support Undershaw’s position as a Centre of Excellence and Influence for SEND Education.
Get Ahead is a toolkit and resource co-produced with and for disabled young people. The newsletter and magazine navigate the wide range of information and resources that are available in Post-16 education, training, and employment. It is a platform where young people can have their voice heard and share the many talents they have. It contains accessible information on CV writing, how to build a profile, the world of job searching, further education, and much more.

Disability Rights UK also has a cadre of committed lobbyists and policy activists within its reach, and to be gifted such an outlet for our students to add voice to the wider campaign alongside these influencers, Undershaw is helping to raise the bar on what genuine inclusivity means in our society.
Our young people are remarkable. Positioning themselves as stakeholders in their own success and independence is the most impactful thing we can teach.
